For most destination weddings in Mexico, the sweet spot for booking flights is 3 to 5 months in advance. This is typically when airlines release enough inventory to offer competitive pricing, without the last-minute surge that pushes fares up in the final weeks before a trip.

Guests who book earlier than 5-6 months out don't always benefit — prices at that point can still fluctuate, and airlines haven't yet released their full range of fare options.

It depends on where your guests are flying from

Domestic flights (within Mexico) tend to have more flexibility and generally stay more stable in price, so guests flying domestically can comfortably book 2-3 months ahead without much risk.

International flights, especially from the U.S., Canada, or further abroad, benefit from that 3-5 month window — and if your wedding falls during a holiday period or U.S. school break, guests should aim for the earlier end of that range, or even 6 months out.

High season changes the math

If your wedding falls between December and April — peak wedding and vacation season across most of Mexico — flights fill up faster and prices climb sooner. In this case, encourage guests to book at the 5-6 month mark rather than waiting until 3.

For weddings in shoulder season (May, or October-November), guests have a bit more breathing room and can often find good fares even 2-3 months out.

Help guests by giving them the information upfront

The single best thing you can do as a couple is remove the guesswork. Once you've locked in your date and venue, share:

• The closest airport to your venue (and any alternate airports worth checking)

• Recommended airlines or direct-flight routes, if you know of any

• A suggested booking window based on your date and season
